Doha Capital of Arab Culture 2010 – May update
After successful performance that Shaman Dance Theater had on the stages of Qatar National Theater, cultural activities of Doha – Capital of Arab culture for month of April were closed. Month of May is also rich of events,during first week of the month were held Iraqi days, with various events, from folk dance performances, theater, traditional music, songs, to modern arts and finally fashion show, which had great success among Dohans and other visitors. Then there was performance of Cuban dance group The Lizt Alfonso Ballet on 6 and 7th of May. Then The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which hosts the two Holy Shrines, is present in the Doha 2010 celebration with its cultural weight and its prestigious history. This dedicated cultural week is rich with seminars, conferences, music concerts, folklore and handicraft shows and a book fair. Locations are the Qatar National Theater, Souq Waqif and the Heritage Village. The events will take place from 9th of May till 14th. This exhibit is co-organized by the Visual Arts Center at the Ministry of Culture, Arts and heritage, the German Cultural Section in Doha and the Qatar Photographic Society and will be open to public from 18th of May till 1st of June. Algerian cultural days are set from 24 till 28th of May. As a guest of the Arab Cultural Capital, the country of one and half million martyrs is set to hold various events such as popular dances, poetry evenings, fine arts exhibitions and seminar proceedings. The month is finalized by concert of Syrian singer, composer and poet – Samih Shakir on 29th of May in Qatar National Theater.
