About Festival

On 4 October 2017 the Cultural Village Foundation – Katara in cooperation with the UNESCO Office in Doha was launched the second edition of the annual “Cultural Diversity Festival” in order to encourage cultural diversity and cross-cultural understanding and awareness. The festival will finish on 11 November 2017.  All shows will be presented at Katara Amphitheatre.
The audience, which included the ambassadors and the representatives of diplomatic missions, international organizations and the general public was warmly welcomed by Katara’s Deputy Manager for Operations, Mr.  Ahmad Al Sayed. In his opening speech Mr. Ahmad Al Sayed emphasized that the kick-off of the second Cultural Diversity Festival came after the great success of last year’s edition. He also told that the festival came as part of Katara’s ongoing efforts to promote the mass of the cultures and open vivid windows on the world filled with art, music, folklore, traditions and much more. 
The folkloric groups more than 21 different countries of the World, including Africa, Asia, Europe and South America will take part in the festival. The countries which will present at this year’s festival include the host country – Qatar, Palestine, Lebanon, Algeria, Ethiopia, Togo, South Africa, Republic of China, Republic of Korea, Pakistan, Iran, Russian Federation – Chechnya, Turkey, Hungary, Germany, Slovakia, Great Britain, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Mexico and Brazil. Each group will have two performances up to the closing ceremony on the 11’th of  November.
The opening ceremony will start at 7.30 p.m. by featuring show of Qatar’s Al Maha Folkloric Group with traditional Qatari maritime songs and dances, accompanied by percussion and stringed musical instruments. Then it will be followed by the Palestinian Folkloric Ambassadors Troupe. The show will start from 8.45 p.m. till 9.30 p.m. .
